What is LNG?

Liquefied natural gas is not new energy technology. It is clean, it is safe and it comes from established natural gas supply. LNG is natural gas that has been cooled to -160 degrees Celsius. At this temperature, the gas condenses and becomes liquid. In its liquid state:
  • Volume is reduced 600 times.
  • It is easy to transport.
  • It is odorless, colourless, non-corrosive and non-toxic.
  • It is stored at atmospheric pressure.
Environmentalists, industry and the public agree: natural gas is the clean fuel of choice among fossil fuels. It is seen as the best option to carry us through the transition to the hydrogen economy.
